Good artists copy. great artists steal - Pablo Picasso.
As creatives, perhaps one of the biggest lies we tell ourselves is that everything we create needs to be 100% original. The truth is, everything is borrowed, and nothing is 100% original.
This is perhaps the hardest thing you’ll have to convince yourself about, but unless you understand this, you’ll always feel guilty about your creations.
By understanding that creativity is all about re-mixing things and putting your unique spin on them, you give yourself permission to create quicker, faster, and better.
Don’t get me wrong, blatant plagiarism is still wrong, but you’ll never create anything worthwhile if you never accept that many of your ideas will have elements borrowed from others.
So, whenever you notice a thought that strikes you, don’t be shy to borrow it and be creative with it.
This is true creativity.
So, how often do you borrow ideas from others?
